The Superior Court of the Virgin Islands is a court of record. The Office of
the Court Reporter was established in accordance with 4 V.I. Code Ann. § 86.
The Official Court Reporter makes and preserves a verbatim record, which may
contain nonverbal incidents related to the proceedings, using a stenograph
machine with the assistance of computer-aided transcription software. The
primary duty of the Court Reporters’ Office includes two phases. The first
phase is making the record. The second phase is transcript production -
converting the record into readable form. Upon request of an official
transcript, the Court Reporter transcribes, proofreads, certifies, files the
transcript with the court and distributes the official transcript to the
interested parties.
